Tullis Russell Mills Band

 

Congratulations to Tullis Russell Mills band on coming 3rd in the 3rd Section of the National Brass Band Championships in the Harrogate International Centre. Conducted by Alan Morrison the band played the set testpiece, Sinfonietta for Brass Band by Gordon Langford. The adjudicators were Steve Pritchard Jones and Kevin Wadsworth.

Section winners were Long Eaton Silver Band, 2nd was Rainford Band and the other Scottish representative Broxburn Silver came a creditable 6th place.

Scottish 3rd Section champions Tullis Russell received a boost to their preparations for the Nationals this week when Alan Morrison confirmed that he will be conducting the band. The world-famous Morrison, who guided the Band to the Scottish triumph, expressed his delight at having the opportunity to work with the Band again, saying "I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead."

The news comes hard on the heels of other recent successes in the Band's preparations. Last month, horn player Dean Smith (age 12) received £200 in sponsorship from local business the Greenside Hotel, in Leslie.

Last Saturday saw further fundraising success, when the Band's "Sponsored Blow" in the Kingdom Centre, Glenrothes, raised over £750. The Band would like to thank the Greenside, the Kingdom Centre and the public for their continued support.

Today brought more good news, when the National Lottery Awards for All Fund confirmed a grant for £2400 towards the National Finals costs.

The Band is remaining active in the coming weeks with concerts at Markinch Parish Church on 27th July and Multrees Walk, Edinburgh on 13th August. Tickets for the Markinch performance are available on the night (starting time 7.30).

With the groundwork well underway, the hard work now begins rehearsing the test piece "Sinfonietta" by Gordon Langford.
